THE COLLECTION

Paintings & Drawings by Jamal Joratli

A selection of paintings, large-scale canvases and drawings by Syrian-born, Athens-based artist Jamal Joratli. The works move from the travellers, horses and Terracotta Warriors of his celebrated Silk Road series – exhibited at the Benaki Museum in Athens and the Dalian Modern Museum in China – to luminous figures, forests and abstract colour fields.

Dimensions are given as height × width. For enquiries about available works, prints or commissions, please get in touch.

SERIES

The Silk Road Series

Inspired by the ancient route between China and the West: crowds of travellers, Terracotta Warriors, Peking Opera masks and the Arabian horses that carried precious goods across mountains and deserts. Works from this series were shown in Athens (2016), Corfu and Dalian, China (2018).

FIGURES & ABSTRACTION

Figures, Colour & Movement

Portraits, masks and vertical compositions where figures dissolve into layered colour – deep crimson, rose, violet and earth tones.

NATURE

Forests & Branches

Birch forests, white trunks and networks of branches – nature as rhythm, light and structure.

WORKS ON PAPER

Drawings & Studies

Pencil studies of travellers, horses and Terracotta Warriors – the first step of the artist’s journey towards each painting.
