Jamal Joratli’s “Silk Road Flowers” Opens in Dalian, China
On 18 October 2018, the exhibition “Silk Road Flowers — Jamal Art Touring Exhibition” opened at the Dalian Modern Museum in Liaoning, China.
The exhibition presented 32 oil paintings and sketches by Jamal Joratli, marking the first time his Silk Road series was shown in China. Dalian was the first stop for the exhibition in the country. ln.cri.cn
Born in Syria in 1961 and established in Greece, Jamal had already exhibited internationally in the United States, Germany, Italy, Greece and several Arab countries. His Silk Road works had previously been shown in Greece before travelling to China. ln.cri.cn
The paintings reinterpret the historic Silk Road through a modern artistic language. They bring together people, mountains, difficult roads and horses carrying valuable goods, creating scenes that reflect both the danger of the journey and the determination of those who travelled it. ln.cri.cn
At the heart of the collection is a message of hope, resilience and cultural exchange. The Silk Road is presented not only as a trade route, but as a meeting point between civilisations and a symbol of humanity’s ability to overcome distance, hardship and difference.
By bringing this body of work to China, Jamal strengthened one of the central themes of his artistic practice: the connection between East and West through contemporary art.
